Home/First-Time Home Buyers

First-Time Home Buyers · Southeast Michigan

Your first home is closer than it feels. Let's get you through the front door.

I'm Logan Mango, a REALTOR® with RE/MAX Dynamic, and working with first-time buyers is my favorite part of this job. I'll walk you through every step in plain English — no pressure, no jargon, and no question too small — from your very first look to the keys in your hand.

New to this? Perfect.

You've never bought a house before. That's exactly who I love helping.

Buying a home comes with a pile of unfamiliar words and steps — pre-approval, earnest money, contingencies, closing costs. It sounds like a lot because nobody ever taught you this. That's normal, and it's fixable.

You don't have to know any of it going in. My whole job is to translate the process, protect your interests, and keep things moving — while you ask me anything, as many times as you need.

The journey

From "maybe someday" to "these are my keys."

Every buyer is a little different, but here's the path most first-time purchases follow — so the whole thing feels a lot less mysterious.

1

Get pre-approved with a lender

This is step one, and it's the one that makes everything real. A lender reviews your finances and tells you what you can borrow, so you shop with a clear budget — and sellers take your offers seriously.

2

Figure out what you're looking for

We talk through your budget, your must-haves, your dealbreakers, and where you want to be. Then I set up a search so the right homes come straight to you.

3

Tour homes and find the one

We go see places together. I'll help you look past the staging to spot both the gems and the red flags — and there's never any pressure to like something you don't.

4

Make an offer

When you find it, I build a competitive offer and negotiate on your behalf — the price, the terms, and the details that protect you.

5

Inspection and appraisal

Once your offer's accepted, we look under the hood. An inspection reveals the home's real condition and the appraisal confirms its value. If something turns up, I'll help you decide what to do about it.

6

Close, and get your keys

We do a final walkthrough, sign at closing, and the home is officially yours. This is the fun part — and I'll be there for it.

In your corner

What working with me actually looks like.

Everything in plain English — ask me anything, as many times as you need, with zero judgment.

No pressure, ever — you'll never hear "you'd better hurry" from me. It's your decision and your timeline.

Trusted local lenders so the financing side is smooth instead of stressful.

Real negotiation on your behalf — price, terms, and repairs, with your interests first.

A trained eye for problems — I'll help you spot issues in a home before they become your issues.

A pointer toward assistance programs you may qualify for, so you're not leaving help on the table.

Logan let us look at properties at our own pace and focused on what my wife and I prioritized. He never once tried to hard sell us — and once we found a home we liked, he helped us get our forever home.

Don't count yourself out

A few myths that keep good people renting.

The myth

"You need 20% down."

Plenty of loan programs need far less — often 3–5%, and 0% down for some buyers. You might be closer than you think.

The myth

"My credit has to be perfect."

It doesn't. Many first-time buyers qualify with less-than-perfect credit, and a good lender can suggest simple ways to strengthen it.

The myth

"I can't afford to buy right now."

Maybe you can. Michigan programs like MSHDA exist specifically to help first-time buyers with down payments and costs.

The myth

"Having my own agent is expensive."

Starting a conversation costs you nothing, and we'll put exactly how I'm paid in writing up front — no surprises.

One honest note: I'm a REALTOR®, not a lender — a loan officer can tell you exactly what you qualify for. But please don't assume the answer is no before you ask.

Good questions

The things first-time buyers ask me most.

How much do I need for a down payment?

Usually less than people expect. Many first-time buyers put down 3–5%, and some loan types allow as little as 0%. A lender can tell you exactly what fits your situation — and I'm happy to connect you with a good one.

What's the very first step?

Getting pre-approved with a lender. It tells you your budget and makes your offers stronger, and honestly, everything else gets easier once that piece is in place. If you're not sure where to start, that's what our first conversation is for.

What if my credit isn't great?

You likely still have options. Plenty of first-time buyers purchase with imperfect credit, and a good lender can also point out a few simple things that might help. Let's not assume the answer is no before we look.

What does it cost to work with you?

We'll go over how buyer representation works and exactly how I'm compensated before we tour a single home — in writing, so there are never any surprises. Starting a conversation with me costs you nothing.

Is now a good time to buy?

The honest answer: it depends on you, not the headlines. If you're financially ready and you find the right home, timing the market perfectly matters far less than most people think. We'll talk through whether it makes sense for you specifically.

How long does the whole thing take?

From pre-approval to keys, many first-time purchases take a couple of months once you're actively looking — sometimes faster, sometimes slower. I'll give you a realistic picture for your situation so you can plan.

Local, and here for you

I know this market — and I'll help you find a home that fits your life.

I work across Southeast Michigan every day: the price ranges, the styles of homes, and the local lenders who make first-time purchases go smoothly. Wherever you're hoping to land, I'll help you find something that fits both your life and your budget — and I'll make sure you understand every step along the way.

A note: Logan Mango is a licensed REALTOR®, not a mortgage lender or financial advisor. Loan programs, down payment requirements, and assistance programs change and depend on your circumstances — please confirm the details with a licensed lender.
